For Australian women, the idea of beauty is defined by physical attributes

Recent Newspoll survey has suggested that majority of Australian women suffer from inferiority complex about their bodies and hence, recoil from beaches, swimming pools, shopping for clothes and attending parties. The findings discovered that two-thirds of the women, nearly, 15 to 64 years of age declined to take part in activities because they considered themselves susceptible to vulnerability. It also found the majority of 10- to 17-year-olds wanted to change their appearance. One in five teenagers prefer to go in for plastic surgery while the figure is double for the women aged 18 to 64. The study also strengthened mother-daughter ties, nearly, one-third of teens aged 15 to 17 suggested their mothers as the most powerful influence on their perception of beauty. For the other teens, celebrities become the role models for self worth. For nearly, 86% of the early teens, girls they saw in magazines and on TV looked beautiful. One-third of teenagers confessed they would stay at home, almost double the international average of 18 per cent. Majority of the women are starving themselves to death, just to look slim because ‘slim is in’. It seems strange that eating disorders are mainly a problem in developed countries where there’s no shortage of food. Leave alone Australia, some people in USA and UK are battling obesity while, others are starving themselves to death.
