alcohol consumption in women
Study carried out by researches in Cardiff suggests that alcohol consumption among women reaches its zenith when they are in their forties but in case of men, it occurs in their late twenties.

In order to carry out the study, more than 800 people were ‘breathalysed’ out of which forty percent of men and twenty percent of women fell in the category of ‘at risk’ for heavy drinking.

Further, it also emphasized that concentration of alcohol was higher in men who were in late twenties but it dropped off with the advancement of years. However, the case was just the opposite when women were taken into consideration, their blood alcohol level rose as they reach forty plus.

Scholars fail to understand the reason for such a change yet one of them speculates that women in young age have to share certain responsibilities but ‘once the children have left home, then the sky’s the limit.’

The survey concluded:

1. Average time of alcohol consumption for men and women is 7 hours and 5 hours, respectively.
2. Younger women were less drunk with respect to older women.
3. Older men were more drunk than men in late twenties.
4. Younger drinkers, students and the unemployed are not the most ‘at risk’ groups for heavy drinking.
