The 500 companies listed on Norway’s stock exchange are definitely going to face a tough time very soon as they’ll have to re-assess their employment policy and give 40% of seats to women on their boards. Failing to which they can face harsh consequences like being shut down.
Norwegian equality minister, Karita Bekkemellem says
“From January 1 2006, I want to put in place a system of sanctions that will allow the closure of firms,” she said. “I do not want to wait another 20 or 30 years for men with enough intelligence to finally appoint women.
This deep-seated draconian step is forced by the government with a view to help women break through the ‘glass ceiling’.
At a stage when women are no way less than men when it comes to business education...it is sheer silliness on the part of the business houses to let this enormous amount of talent to get waste like that only. It’s really strange that in Norway, where women are making it really successful in Politics by holding one third of country’s MPs, Business world is facing a stark lack of this talent. So in the wake of the above mentioned facts and figures I think a policy like this can definitely do wonders to women’s standing in the corporate world.
