Going against their social setup including parents, fourteen girls from a little village of Maharashtra, campaigned on bikes and disseminated awareness on AIDS and violence against women across the state.
All the girls were quite thrilled as their expedition finished in Mumbai on first of December.
A class XII student Swati Jagtap said, ‘I was not getting permission from my father to come along. He wasn’t even allowing me to travel across the district, forget the whole state. He relented when my seniors came and convinced him’.
However, her determination was strong enough which didn’t make her and her comrades deter from the chosen path.
Moreover, Priyanka one of the biker says, ‘We want to do it again. The response we got was really good’.
One of the girls even received beatings from her parents for her voluntary work towards humanity.
The ride was organised by the Centre for Youth Development and Activities (CYDA), a Pune based organization, in collaboration with Action Aid India, which aimed to disseminate the knowledge regarding HIV/AIDS.
They visited villages, held camps in schools, colleges and put up street plays.
Meanwhile, as the girls kick-start their bikes they said that they are ready to spearhead change in their own way in their native villages.
