A recent study published in Occupational and Environmental Medicine Journal has revealed that being in a temporary job has more adverse effects on women in comparison to men.

The research revealed that women in temp jobs face more terminations owing to poor health. The study based employment data for 60,600 people aged 16 to 54, a third of whom worked as temps found women employees to be more vulnerable in this regard.

The leaves that they took due to poor health paved their way to termination and the mental trauma arising out of that in turn acted contrary for their health. Thus, they seemed to be in ‘catch 22′.

Mike Clinton, an occupational psychologist at King’s College London, said: “Temporary work is inherently more insecure, particularly when contracts are short or coming to an end and the risks for employee health seem to increase when workers do not choose to be temps.

I think it’s important to know why temps took leaves...was it really on health grounds. And if this is the case them special attention should be given towards health and greater protection should be provided to temporary workers as far as least job security is concerned.
