Sue Conley, executive director of the Community Foundation, which aims at providing grants to benefit girls and women, believes that the Janesville City Council is working under the monopoly of men as women issues are not being looked after.
In Janesville, a woman hasn’t served on the council since 2003. Two women have served at the same time only twice in the council’s 80-year history. Now they want to go into the world of politics because they say that sexes approach issues differently.
Research also suggests that women are more likely than men to draw people into the decision-making process and build consensus.
At times women feel that they cannot work in the given position but as researchers say, that women often need to be invited into the political arena; they need encouragement; and they sometimes don’t think they are qualified.
Overall, most of the women are able to balance their share of work fairly well.
