
Angela Merkel, the first female chancellor of Germany, has been named the most powerful woman in the world. She has occupied the place of Condoleezza Rice, US Secretary of State, who held the position for the past two years.
Politicians and business leaders with some of the world’s highest companies dominate the business magazine’s third annual list.
Thirty are in the top levels of government while seven of the top 10 are businesswomen.
Indra Nooyi, chief executive-designate of PepsiCo, is the highest ranked business woman at number four while Safra Catz, chief financial officer of Oracle, who is considered by some to be the most powerful woman.
