Marie Maes, is a job seeker, but mind you she’s not a typical job seeker. She’s 74 years old licensed nurse having a work experience of 40 years. Her pay packet allows her to live just above the poverty line. And she’s not alone, Labor departments statistics show that the in the US, number of women between the ages of 70 and 74 who were still working doubled from 324,000 to 618,000, over the past 14 years.

At an age when these women should ideally sit at home and lead life peacefully, most women here are working, not because they want to but to sustain them selves. When most of the young women are quitting their jobs these elderly females are trying hard to be in employment, all thanks to:

1.Shrinking Social Security checks

2.Smaller or nonexistent pensions

3.Longer life spans

4.Bad financial planning

More elderly Seattleites are searching out for jobs these days. But the condition of single women is far helpless than their married counterparts. These women have no choice either, for they started working later and didn’t have any idea of what is retirement planning. And those who knew left it to their husbands. So now they have no choice but to work

“I would never be rich, at least I could make ends meet,” Maes said.
