As I have always, said women are no less than Y-chromosome in nearly all walks of life. They have the ability to do anything and everything under the sun. And yea, we’ve proved again and this time the crown goes to Gaby dela Merced, a Formula 3 driver.



She’s clueless regarding the basic automobile facts neither can she distinguish between Toyota, Hyundai or Honda emblem but she has paved her way into the racing world.



Right from soccer to basketball and martial arts, she’s tried hands but somehow car racing fascinated her.



In 2000, Dela Merced bagged class wins in the Philippine Slalom Championship. The following year, she ruled the ladies’ class of the same event.



Right now, Dela Merced continues to function like a well-oiled machine. Aside from racing, she has pursued other activities like flag football, ultimate frisbee and adventure racing. She’s also back in school at the UP Open University.



Dela says, ‘Racing is one of the most gratifying things. I’ve always been passionate about what I do. And that’s how you should live life, no matter how ridiculous things seem. It’s not about showing the world, but showing yourself that this is what you want, this is where you want to go, and that you can find ways to get there’.
