On 16th of October, Melanie Troxel the world’s fastest female drag racer, at 331 mph, was honored with the Women’s Sports Foundation sportswoman of the year award.
She became the first motor sports athlete to win the award surpassing finalists Annika Sorenstam and Amelie Mauresmo.
Talking about the event, Troxel, 33, said,
‘I kind of thought I was a long shot. For drag racing to be recognized with other mainstream sports, it’s a little different for us. Even among other motor sports, we kind of feel like we’re a separate entity’.

Sportswoman of the Year award winners include some of the greatest female athletes of all time from the likes of Annika Sorenstam , Michelle Kwan and Martina Navratilova but Melanie Troxel is the first auto racer or a drag racer as you would say to win the prestigious award… the award becomes all the more special for her having won it over the former recipient Annika Sorenstam and the tennis maestro Amelie Mauresmo.
