According to the corporation’s freedom of information scheme, women reporters who are working under the banner of BBC are earning 6,500 pounds less than their male counterparts.
In keeping with the statistical data, lady correspondent is paid 59,050 pounds whereas male correspondent receives 65,625 pounds for the same work.
However, a BBC spokesperson is of the view,
‘To help put the information in context, it is worth noting that the relative experience of specialist correspondents is likely to be reflected in their salaries. Therefore, we have also included the average ages of and lengths of service for the sample group, as they may be an indicator of relative levels of experience’.
In the present times, irrespective of any country, women have taken long strides and have been through many testimonials in order to prove their efficacy towards work along with their household chores, yet this gender prejudice especially regarding equal pay is all pervasive.
Can anybody tell me, why?
