Smoking is not good any point of life for anyone...be it a man or a woman. But still it is advised that women should not pick up that ciggie before their first full-term pregnancy. The reason being that women who begin to smoke before their first full term pregnancy get exposed to higher chances of breast cancer after menopause.
Dr. Janet E. Olsen of the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine in Rochester, opines that
“This study suggests that breast cancer prevention needs to start in adolescence, when young women are making decisions about whether to start smoking cigarettes,”
There is a stark difference between two women, one out of which begins to smoke before her pregnancy while second starts after having her first child. The former one is at a higher risk while the latter appears at no risk of developing cancer, sometimes they are even as good as those who do not smoke at all.
Though smoking is coming up as more of a style statement and the new generation calls it a new method of getting rid of stress...still my first suggestion is not to smoke. But even if you have decided to... then make sure you start it after having your first child.
