Update Your Closet Without Breaking the Bank

Update Your Closet Without Breaking the Bank

CabinetRaise your hand if your dream in life is to shop in any store without ever having to check the price tag. If you raised your hand, then welcome to the club, my friend. You are not alone. Until that day comes, here are a few tips to update your closet without breaking the bank.

Assess the Mess

Get every piece of clothing you own and lay it all out. Divide them in any way that makes sense to you. It could be according to the type of clothing (tops, pants, skirts, etc.) or add another layer of classification (work, casual, dressy, etc.). Just as long as you see everything.

You might be able to uncover hidden treasures you have totally forgotten about. According to The Cut, we only wear 20% of the clothes we have on a regular basis. Create a keep and a discard pile. Konmari the heck out of that closet.

Try out different combinations of your pieces. Step out of the usual combos you’re used to and create something else for a change. Ask a friend to work with you on this, hopefully, a fashionable yet sensible one. It’s always better to have a fresh set of eyes to help you out.

Sell then Buy

In your discard pile, put clothes that you haven’t worn in a year. Be honest! None of the I-can still-wear-lies. Look for the pieces that are still presentable and try selling them. You can go traditional and do a garage sale or try selling them online. One woman’s trash is another woman’s treasure. You can use the money you earn to add to your clothing allowance.

Sky’s the Limit-ed

Speaking of clothing allowance, yes, you need one. I know it’s hard especially when you’re surrounded by those stores who annoyingly display gorgeous clothes. Inconsiderate of them, right? Kidding! That’s how we used to see them as. Now, it’s all about motivation. Look around and try things out so you know if it looks good on you or not.

Fight the urge of an impulse buy. If you really want it, wait it out. Maybe a few days or a week? If you still want it, then by all means, go for it.

Accessorize Exercise

Never underestimate the power of accessories. They’re considerably more affordable than clothes. They can transform outfits from casual and cute to drop-dead gorgeous.

Bargains are our Best Friends

Be on the lookout for those sales and discounts, ask the sales personnel when they normally have their sale and keep track. Go for versatile pieces you can mix and match with what you already have. Be the most stylish, smartest shopper you’ll ever know.

There’s no need to deplete your savings just to be fashionable.
